FULL RESULTS ARE AVAILABLE HERE

Despite some rain showers early on in the meet, the UBC Pre Jerome delivered great competition and provided a great prologue for the Vancouver Sun Harry Jerome International Track Classic, which takes place tomorrow, July 1, at Burnaby, BC's Swanguard Stadium.

By far the most competitive meet at the Rashpal Dhillon UBC Track and Field Oval to date, the Pre Jerome attracted athletes from all over North America in part with the draw of top performers in certain events earning entries to the Harry Jerome.

The women's 400-meters started off the meet, with Kelsey Lotwin of University of Calgary Athletics Club taking the win in 56.80-seconds. Benjamin Ayesu-Attah of the Coquitlam Cheetahs won the men's 400-meters section in 48.03-seconds.

Kenler Logan of the New West Spartans was the lone entry in the men's triple jump, but managed to jump 11.98-meters on his third attempt. On the women's side, Erin Templeton, a UBC Thunderbird, won the women's triple jump with a leap of 11.26-meters.

A single runner toed the line in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase, but that didn't stop him from setting an aggressive pace. Javier Palacios Luna of Mexico was on pace for 9-minutes, but faded slightly to 9:13.00, a solid time nonetheless, especially as he was running it entirely alone.

In the women's 3000-meter steeplechase, Lennie Waite of TeamRogue Elite -- an Austin, Texas-based post-collegiate competitive running group -- led from the gun and didn't slow down. Hurdling clear over the final water barrier, she ran to an impressive sub-10-minute performance of 9:55.25. A trio of Speed River Track and Field Club runners finished close behind Waite. Dana Buchanan, the recently crowned 2011 Canadian steeplechase champion, was second in 10:09.18, BC native Meredith MacGregor was third in 10:12.79, and Lydia Willemse was fourth in 10:42.61.

In the women's 200-meters, Shai Davis of the Kajaks just dipped under 25-seconds, clocking 24.97-seconds.

Jordyn Smith, of Bowerman Athletics Club, won the women's 1500-meters in 4:29.36 in a close finish over Andrea Parker, running unattached, in 4:29.51. Heh Yeon Jung of Korea was third in 4:30.49.

The men's 1500-meters had a rabbit lead through 900-meters. Dennis Wolff, running for Riadha, was never far from the front of the race, and surged away on the last lap to win in 3:54.38. Park Jung Jin of Korea was second in 3:55.59, and UBC Thunderbird Jordan Maynard was third in 3:57.25. Kerry Kazuta, of Point Grey Track and Field Club, running in his first 1500-meters of the year, was fifth in 3:58.21.

Back off the track, Manisha Kandola, of the New West Spartans, won the women's high jump, clearing 1.55-meters.

Despite non-ideal conditions, some fast times were produced in the 100-meter sprints. Coquitlam Cheetah Liza Whitehead won the women's 100-meters in 12.19-seconds. Two hundred meter champion Shai Davis, of the Kajaks, was second in 12.43-seconds.

The men's 100-meters title went to Adam Harris, a 2008 Olympian for Guyana in the 200-meters, in 10.52-seconds. Lawrence Trice, of Phoenix, Arizona's AAG Elite Track Club, was second in 10.58-seconds.

In the women's 800-meters, Mason Cathey, running for the Saucony Hurricanes, followed pacer Traci Boss through 400-meters in just over 60-seconds, and held on for the win in 2:09.17 ahead of a trio of University of Victoria runners. Katelyn Currie took second in 2:12.87; Kendra Pomfret was narrowly third in 2:12.90, and Maureen McCulligh fourth in 2:16.46.

In the men's race, pacer Adam Paul-Morris, a UBC Thunderbird, led Daniel Pessing of the Houston Harriers through 500-meters before stepping off. Pessing opened up his lead on the backstretch, and closed comfortably in 1:50.49. Mark Wilkie, of Point Grey TFC, won a fierce battle for second place in 1:51.56, and Nick Falk, of Windsor, Ontario, was third in 1:51.76. Point Grey's Nigel Hole was seventh in 1:52.02.

The last event of the day, the women's 5000-meters was paced by North Carolina Tarheel standout Kendra Schaaf. Looking very smooth, Schaaf led Dawn Charlier-Grunnagle until about a mile to go before stepping off the track. Charlier-Grunnagle opened up a great kick over the last lap and clocked a time of 16:30.14.
